The Escarpment Estate boasts a collection of arguably the most contemporary modern designs in the Niseko area with straight, sharp and angled design cues. The owners wanted the home to bring them as close to nature as possible along with complexity in simplicity. Hikohito Konishi Architects & Associates out of Sapporo put together the design under instruction to not spare any expense in making it truly special.

ES23 was brought to life in 2015 by Sudo Constructions. The 4 Bedroom, 3 bathroom home spreads itself over a 240 sqm floor area. Whilst the house is quite simple in design, the rich textures of finishing and fittings are anything but, including cor-ten steel both on the inside and outside of the house. The owners’ wishes to be close to nature culminated in 6 meter floor to ceiling windows on both floors to ensure completely unobstructed panoramic views of the ever changing seasonal tapestry in the shadow of Mt Yotei. With the owner being a car buff, a custom fitted garage was built, boasting a double height ceiling to cope with a car lift and custom exhaust systems. A glass curtain wall looking from the garage to the living space features liquid crystal cloud film, allowing the owner to switch between an opaque or transparent wall with a flick.

As Hirafu continues to expand and grow exponentially, the number of sites that remain truly tranquil continue to dwindle.
